Lovely Complex - Love*Com

You only wished love was blind
Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Ootani are in the same class and are commonly referred to as a comedic duo for the way they interract in public.
And for a while that was fine.
That is, until Risa falls for the much shorter Ootani. Unfortunately, Ootani has known her to be the other half of the comic duo for so long, he finds it difficult to impossible to see her as his girlfriend.
Risa is instantly heartbroken when her confession is taken as a joke by Ootani, but she tries harder and harder, only to fall flat on her face again. Ootani just doesn’t seem to understand who she’s in love with. When he finally gets that the mysterious love of her life is himself, Ootani doesn’t quite know how to handle it.
Between being repeatedly taken for granted as the other half of the comedy duo and constantly being hurt by Ootani’s less than delicate words at times, the relationship is off to a rocky start. But it takes off at least.
Lovely Complex is extremely funny at times, but that somehow doesn’t take away from the romance. It’s a wonderful balance that adds a great deal to the overall story. The animation in particular is spot on for the comedy and the timing is near perfect.
It manages to pull off the romance part without being overly sensitive and the facial expressions are in perfect sync with the characters and story. The jokes don’t depend on the expressions alone and are a plesant mix of situation and word play.
A highly recommended romantic comedy.
